In Danielle Allen’s deeply personal memoir, she reconstructs her cousin’s life and tries to understand what it’s like to grow up in a city carved up by invisible gang borders; and we learn how a generation has been lost.

The cover concept intends to be immediate, hopeful and defiant. However it also alludes to the brutality at the core of the lives of a generation of American youngsters. The earlier jackets offered variations on the theme - the US flag as a varnish or a prison – or simply a direct typographic as a frustrated cry for help.
