THE YELLOW JERSEY - PETER COSSINS
I feel rather fortunate to have worked on this project. It’s not every day you get to design a book cover to cover.
Working with author Peter Cossins and photograph Seamus Masters, I was fortunate to revisit Nice and spend time shooting a wealth of Yellow Jersey artefacts at The Musée de Sport. From Eddie Merckx’s legendary 1970 Maillot Jaune, Laurent Fignon’s aerodynamic cycling helmet and Joop Zoetemelk’s lycra yellow jersey jumpsuit to original artworks of legends such as Coppi, LeDucq and Rolland and boundless cartoons, magazines, books and the original copy of L’Auto newspaper that announced the inception of the Maillot Jaune.
Armed with a wealth of material I set to work piecing the design around Pete’s text. The design was constructed so that each each chapter began with four sides of gloss stock to accompany a yellow jersey relevant to that chapter. A pleasure to work on.
